Senior Congress leader and J&K incharge Rajni Patil on Saturday said that the party should learn from the BJP and prepare from grassroots for any upcoming elections as the top-down approach isn’t working.

The Congress leader, while addressing a function at the party headquarters in Srinagar, hoped that the party would register a promising victory in the upcoming elections in J&K, which will revive the party’s winning streak across the country.

“We can’t always go with the top down approach. We have to learn from the BJP and understand how their cadre works at the booth level before and during the elections,” said Patil. She said that the party should make all efforts for the victory in elections in J&K.

“We have to do a door-to-door campaign and learn how BJP does it. If Baghwan and Allah wishes we will win elections in J&K, which may open the winning streak for us again,” said Patil. She urged the people of J&K to fight for the restoration of statehood and said that Congress party would strive for this as well.

“Union Home Minister on the floor of the parliament promised that statehood would be restored soon. But he backtracked on his promise and is now talking about elections. Who knows what will they do after that. Congress demands restoration of statehood immediately,” she said.

The J&K in-charge of the Congress accused the BJP of misusing investigating agencies for the party’s political aims. “BJP uses CBI, ED, Income Tax and other agencies to attack the opposition. Even the recent elections and counting were not fair, but we are losers in the recent elections and our claims may not matter,” said Patil.

During the function in Srinagar, the Congress leadership urged its cadre to prepare for the upcoming assembly elections and promised that mandate would be given to candidates who have strong footing at the grassroot level, irrespective of his influence and stature within the party. The J&K Congress working president Raman Bhalla and party’s working committee member Tariq Hameed Karra were also present in the meeting.

“If we get to know that there is a wave in favour of Congress in Jammu division and party will manage around 15 seats there, people of Kashmir will en masse vote for Congress like people voted for Kejriwal in Punjab. Despite all the humongous challenges in the Valley we will perform,” said Ghulam Ahmad Mir, a senior Congress leader.

He also promised that the party workers need to propose meeting and the Congress leaders including Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi would be ready to travel to any far-off places like Tanghdar and Tetwal.

The Congress leaders directed the workers to start preparing for the polls and inform people about the benefits of voting Congress to power in J&K.

” If we are voted to power we will provide jobs to two lakh youngsters, waive off all pending electricity bills of poor, waive off loans of farmers availed through Kisan Credit Cards, besides increasing monthly renumeration of Asha Workers and Anaganwadi workers by Rs 2000 each per month,” Mir promised.
