Essentially, some areas could be looking at a total of five percent increase in council tax this April. 

For those that are concerned about the increases in addition to rising living costs, there are some exemptions, discounts and loopholes that could slice their bill. 

The easiest of which is switching payment time periods as council tax is most commonly paid over a period of 12 months, paying council tax over 10 months instead, while bringing a slightly higher monthly rate, will see consumers going two months completely council tax free. 

Additionally, there are a range of criteria that could count individuals as disregarded which provides a discount on the households’ council tax bill.
