Cristiano Ronaldo ‘wanted by three clubs’ as Jorge Mendes holds crunch Man Utd talks | Football | Sport

Cristiano Ronaldo is being chased by a trio of European suitors after his agent Jorge Mendes held crisis talks with Manchester United supremo Richard Arnold over the club’s poor form, according to reports. Ronaldo rejoined United to plenty of fanfare over the summer but has failed to hit the heights of yesteryear over the course of his second spell at Old Trafford thus far.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is currently enduring his longest goal drought in over a decade and has only scored eight times in the Premier League since the beginning of the campaign.

He signed a two-year deal at United upon his return to the club in pre-season but his future already looks to be in doubt ahead of the summer transfer window.

Reports have suggested that Ronaldo’s relationship with interim boss Ralf Rangnick has deteriorated in recent weeks, leading to speculation that he could decide to walk away from United ahead of next season.

The club’s lacklustre form is also said to be a sticking point for the forward, with the Red Devils having drawn each of their last three matches in all competitions.

United look set to face a tough battle to secure a top-four finish and it seems as though Ronaldo’s patience could wear thin if they are unable to qualify for next season’s Champions League over the coming months.

Mendes has already held talks with the club’s hierarchy on behalf of his client, who has since emerged as a potential target for three European sides, according to The Sun.

The report claims that Roma boss Jose Mourinho is keen on snapping up Ronaldo after managing the Portuguese marksman during his time in charge of Real Madrid.

Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also said to have expressed an interest in Ronaldo’s services, which suggests that he will have no shortage of options if he decides to leave United at the end of the campaign.

A move to PSG could emerge as the most likely scenario if Kylian Mbappe joins Real Madrid on a free transfer, while it would also see Ronaldo link up with Lionel Messi in the French capital.

However, the United man is yet to make a firm decision on his future and would consider the possibility of staying at Old Trafford if a Champions League spot can be secured between now and the end of the season.

A source is quoted by the report as saying: “Ronaldo is really torn about his future, he would love nothing more than to win trophies at United, but at the moment that seems like it’s going to be a struggle.

“He doesn’t want to spend the last couple of years of his stellar career in mid-table. Some big clubs are monitoring the situation and have put the feelers out already.”

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether Ronaldo will eventually decide to pursue a move away from United, with his continued presence seemingly dependent on Champions League qualification ahead of next season.

Red Devils boss Rangnick recently urged Ronaldo and his attacking team-mates to start pulling their weight in front of goal as a matter of urgency to stand the best chance of achieving a top-four finish.

“We should score more goals, it’s obvious, but this is not only an issue with Cristiano,” Rangnick told reporters last week.

“It’s an issue with the other players, especially the offensive players. We don’t score enough goals.

“If you bear in mind how many chances we create, this is also something that needs to get better in the next couple of weeks.”
