Cruise guest disgusted by nightmare passenger’s behaviour at ship’s buffet | Travel News | Travel

A cruise ship’s buffet is usually one of guests’ favourite restaurants. However, some passengers have shared horror stories about people’s behaviour at the buffet.

On Reddit, one guest wrote: “We won’t do the buffet on cruise ships. I’ve watched people pick up food, typically desserts, with their bare hands.

“Burgers are awesome but I’ve seen people pick up lettuce with the tongs to put on their burger, get too big of a piece or too much, use their fingers to separate the lettuce and then tong the rest back into the tray.”

Another passenger added: “I understood how people could be okay doing things like touching food with their bare hands and not think that was beyond disgusting. It’s even worse if they do it now (post Covid).

“Thankfully I didn’t see anything like that on my recent sailing but there were so many staff members constantly watching and stepping in it that it looked like someone wasn’t going to use the tongs so that helped.”

Cruise ships are generally very cautious about food hygiene and will always provide tongs for passengers.

Guests will need to serve themselves but it’s against the rules to handle any of the food with bare hands.

Some passengers say they avoid the ship’s buffet as they worry it could be a hotbed for bacteria.

DON’T MISS

Another passenger said: “Cruised with a couple of friends and our spouses once and it was a nightmare.

“One spouse did their level best to ruin the trip for everyone with every single cruising sin.

“Started at dinner with their talking down the serving staff, sending back food for the flimsiest of reasons and just being a general a****.

“Was late for everything, we felt bad for our friend but finally left for an excursion without them. I tipped so much on that trip.”

“I can’t think of anything more rude than laughing at a crew member. I’ve seen people laugh at the room stewards, people cleaning and dining staff.

“And it’s usually from a group of adults…not children.”

Another guest added: “See, this is where I can’t keep my mouth shut. I’d tell the people laughing to shut up and I wouldn’t be nice about it.”

One passenger advised: “Not smart to taunt the people serving you food and making your bed.”
