Daniil Medvedev is tipped for world domination in the tennis world, having already won a Grand Slam title and sailed to number two in the global ATP rankings. Yet in the hype over the star’s winning performances on the court, the public scarcely hears of the sportsman’s wife.

However a rare interview reveals that the 25-year-old Russian model is his biggest cheerleader behind the scenes.

Daria scarcely speaks out about life as the wife of a major sporting star, but now she has told of how the pair originally met – and, of course, it involved tennis.

The journalism graduate turned model is not personally associated with tennis at all these days, but in her childhood, before an injury sabotaged her chances, she used to compete.

The passion for the sport was something she and her husband-to-be would have in common – and as fate would have it, she soon had a chance to admire his skill.

The following year, the pair married in a low-key and understated ceremony – and the union turned out to be a stroke of good luck for the tennis ace.

“Since I married her, my results were only going up!” Daniil has commented, as well as admitting on Instagram that some personal snaps seen of him exist only because of her passion for documenting their lives.

“She likes to take the pictures,” he acknowledged, “and sometimes it’s me who doesn’t want to be filmed and she insists!”

Despite being notoriously shy about disclosing his personal life much of the time, he did make a rare admission about his wife right after winning the US Open – his first ever Grand Slam win.

The emotional sportsman commented that the victory was a double celebration, as it also fell around the time of his third wedding anniversary.

“During the tournament, I couldn’t think of a present,” he confessed.

“So when I went in the final, I thought, ‘I need to find a present fast.’

“When I won, the only thing I thought, ‘If I lose, I have no time to have a present.’ So I have to win this match. I love you, Dasha.”
