Mourners paid their respects to late Pop Idol star, Darius Campbell Danesh, who was found dead on August 11 aged just 41.

Thursday’s ceremony was held in Bearden, Glasgow, and is understood to have been attended by around 100 people, including Darius’ close friend Gerard Butler.

According to The Scottish Sun, a lone piper played Caledonia during the “sombre” procession.

Comedian Omid Djalili paid tribute to the late star on Twitter and revealed details about his funeral.

“Such a lovely talented man gone way too soon. People were always taken aback by how much of a true gentleman he was.

“God bless his soul. Rest in peace my brother.”

Darius’ tragic death was announced on August 16 after he was found motionless at his home in the United States.

No cause of death has been confirmed, but his family said there were “no signs of intent”.

The statement read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh.

“Darius was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiners’ office.

“The local police department have confirmed that there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances.

“The cause of his sudden death is unknown at this stage while medical examinations continue.”

Following his death, Darius’ pal Gerard Butler took to social media to pay tribute to his “brother in arms” and shared how the singer had changed his life.

The 300 star penned: “I am devastated by the sudden passing of my dear friend Darius, a true brother in arms.

“To those lucky enough to have met Darius for more than a few minutes, they were deeply moved by his infectious laugh and barely containable zest for life…

“My heart aches heavily. But going forward, I will beat my drum louder and celebrate life and its every beautiful moment because my brother showed me that was a pretty awesome way to go about it.”

Darius shot to fame following his appearance on ITV’s Popstars in 2001 and Pop Idol the following year.

He came third in the competition, behind Will Young and Gareth Gates, and went on to release a number one single, Colourblind, which was featured on the platinum selling album, Dive In.

He went on to enjoy a successful West End career, securing roles in productions such as Chicago, Guys and Dolls and Gone With The Wind.
