Writer Joshua Williamson and artist Gleb Melnikov look to establish Damian Wayne as the DC Universe’s greatest fighter in a new Robin ongoing series.
DC announced it is launching a new Robin series in April, as Damian Wayne looks to sever his ties to both Batman and the Teen Titans.
Writer Joshua Williamson (The Flash, Future State: Justice League, Infinite Frontier) and artist Gleb Melnikov (Wonder Woman, Batman/Superman Annual) will collaborate on the new ongoing series that promises new mysteries for Damian to explore, a new supporting cast, brand new characters and lots of fighting.
“Being a big fan of Damian Wayne, I’m really excited about getting him back on a hero’s journey,” Williamson said in a statement. “Gleb is the perfect artist to tell this story as we show readers Damian’s growth, in a new adventure that navigates his legacy, his connections to Batman, Talia Al Ghul and kicks off an important story in the DC Universe.”

Fans eager to get a glimpse of what Williamson and Melnikov have in store for Damian will want to check out March’s Batman #106 and Detective Comics #1034. Both issues contain a two-part prequel backup story titled “Demon or Detective,” which follows Damian leaving Batman behind in Detective Comics #1033. Part of Damian’s journey includes facing his mother, Talia al Ghul.
DC first teased a new path for Damian Wayne on Jorge Jimenez’s variant cover for Batman #106, which features a new costume for Damian Wayne that bears no resemblance to his current Robin persona. The cover displays the Bat-Family and Gotham’s villains assembled on the city’s rooftops. Crouching next to Batman is Damian Wayne, wearing a sleek black and gray costume minus his signature red-yellow-and-green Robin costume and hoodie.
Aside from Damian’s falling out with his father, Bruce Wayne, he was also kicked out of the Teen Titans team he formed at the beginning of the DC Rebirth era. The remaining Teen Titans members Red Arrow, Kid Flash, Crush and Roundhouse were recruited by Nightwing, which led into the Future State: Teen Titans series running through the publisher’s two-month Future State initiative.
Written by Joshua Williams and illustrated by Gleb Melnikov, Robin #1 goes on sale Tuesday, April 27 from DC.
