Deal: First $600 price drop on the Sony Xperia Pro-I

We don’t all have $1,800 to splurge on a smartphone, so there will be content creators out there who have been waiting since December for the Sony Xperia Pro-I to become more affordable. That day has finally arrived, with multiple retailers offering the professional-grade camera phone for $1,198 ($600 off) today.

While it’s specially targeted at vloggers and the like, there’s much to like about this camera-cum-phone. We were largely impressed with the device, though the huge $1,800 retail price was a big sticking point. With this first big discount, though, the Xperia Pro-I becomes much more enticing.

Sony is marketing the phone more like a camera with a phone attached to it than the other way around, calling it a “1.0-type image sensor camera with full smartphone capabilities.” The idea is that pro photographers can ditch their cameras entirely, and the excellent image sensors don’t come at the expense of other strong features.

A beautiful 4K display, fast performance, and solid battery life are just a few of the aspects of the device that stood out to us. It’s not the perfect handset, but for pro photographers or hipsters who want to stand out from the crowd, it’s well worth a look at this sale price.

We don’t know how long this sale will last, so check it out while you can via the links below. You can find many more smartphone offers over at our regularly updated phone deals hub.

Sony Xperia Pro-I

High-quality hardware with niche tweaks • Pro-friendly photo capture • Gorgeous 4K-ish screen

Need a powerful, pro-grade imaging phone that does it all? The Xperia Pro-I could be the answer.

The Sony Xperia Pro-I is the latest professional-grade camera phone from Sony. Aimed at imaging and video experts rather than typical smartphone buyers, the Xperia Pro-I is an admirable attempt at crafting a camera replacement with smartphone capabilities, though it’s not without some notable flaws. And it costs a fortune.
