Diablo IV Respeccing Won’t Leave Players Broke; Armory Loadouts Won’t Be Available At Launch

Respeccing characters in Diablo IV, the next entry in the series launching in around two months on PC and consoles, will not leave players broke, according to the franchise’s General Manager.

Answering a question on Twitter, Rod Fergusson confirmed that respeccing a character won’t be “prohibitively expensive” but did not provide any specifics. Additionally, the procedure has been made easier by giving players the option of refunding either a single skill point or the entire skill tree at once. A few months ago, Fergusson himself stated that for some players it might have made more sense to start a new character from scratch instead of respeccing, so it is nice to learn that this is not going to be the case.

In Diablo IV, as in previous entries in the series and all games with a major focus on loot, gear makes a build as much as skill points distribution. Unfortunately, players won’t be able to save their armory loadouts in the game, at least at launch, so they will be forced to manually change their gear every time they want to switch builds for their characters.

With so many things to keep track of, and new consoles supporting keyboard and mouse controls, Diablo IV on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S would benefit greatly from native support. Unfortunately, plans haven’t changed since the original announcement, so playing with mouse and keyboard will only be possible in the PC version of the game.

No matter which features will be in at launch, Diablo IV is setting out to be a smashing success. Last month’s open beta, which allowed players to try out the first few hours of the main campaign and level their characters up to level 25, was played for around 62 million hours, making the series’ biggest beta to date. Hopefully, the smashing success open beta helped Blizzard understand how to avoid any launch day woe and let all players enjoy the game without issues right from the start.

Diablo IV launches on June 6th, 2023 on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Xbox One. More on the game will be coming later this month, alongside an update on the beta’s feedback.
