Britons claiming certain disability benefits are due to receive a £150 cost of living payment this year. The payments form part of a £26billion support package to assist vulnerable Britons with rising prices, as inflation remains at a staggering 10.4 percent.
Mel Stride, the work and pensions secretary said the cost of living payments, which includes the pensioner and disability payment, are intended to help people right across the UK over this year and the start of the next, as “consistent, targeted and substantial” support for the most vulnerable continues.
The £150 disability cost of living payment, which will be paid on top of the main cost of living payment if eligible, is expected to be paid during summer 2023. However, the exact date is yet to be confirmed.
People may be entitled to receive it if they get the following disability benefits on a specified qualifying period, which is also yet to be confirmed:
- Attendance Allowance
- Constant Attendance Allowance
- Disability Living Allowance for adults
- Disability Living Allowance for children
- Personal Independence Payment
- Adult Disability Payment (in Scotland)
- Child Disability Payment (in Scotland)
- Armed Forces Independence Payment
- War Pension Mobility Supplement.

According to Government guidance, payments will be made to people getting a qualifying disability from the DWP before payments to people getting a qualifying benefit from the Ministry of Defence.
Disability claimants may also be eligible for the main cost of living payment and pensioner cost of living payment, amounting in their entirety to £1,350.
Cost of living payment
The main cost of living payment totals £900 and will be split into three instalments and people who receive certain low-income benefits and Tax Credits during specified qualifying periods will be entitled to them.
The first cost of living payment will be worth £301 and will be paid between April 25, 2023, and May 17, 2023, for most people on DWP benefits.
To receive the first payment, people must have been claiming the following benefits or Tax Credits on certain dates:
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Income Support
- Pension Credit
- Universal Credit
- Child Tax Credit
- Working Tax Credit.
Claimants must have been entitled to a payment between January 26 and February 25 or received a payment for an assessment period ending between these dates.

The full amount of Winter Fuel Payment (including the pensioner cost of living payment) for winter 2023 to 2024 will depend on when a person was born and their circumstances during the qualifying dates.
People can get a Winter Fuel Payment for winter 2023 to 2024 if they were born before September 24, 1957.
A letter will be sent out in October or November telling eligible recipients how much Winter Fuel Payment they will get.
These payments are not taxable and will not affect the benefits or Tax Credits a person gets. People also do not need to apply to receive any cost of living payments.
Those who are eligible will be paid automatically in the same way they usually get their benefit or Tax Credits.
