Universal Credit payments due on December 24, 25, 26, or 27 should be paid early on Friday, December 23 the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed.

This is the same for Britons on all benefits and the state pension including PIP (Personal Independence Payment) and tax credits.

Although people will have their money in time for Christmas they will have to make it last longer until their normal payment date in January.

Benefit claimants will also receive a £10 Christmas Bonus normally paid automatically in the first full week of December.
