DWP warning: Benefit payments to change over Easter – dates to expect payment | Personal Finance | Finance

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has clarified the dates when benefit claimants can expect to receive their payments over the bank holiday period. This year, the dates for Easter are Good Friday (April 7), Easter Sunday (April 9) and Easter Monday (April 10), with the bank holidays between Monday, April 3 and Friday, April 14.

Benefit claimants whose payment date falls on a weekend or bank holiday will usually be paid the working day before.

However, this can change between benefit types so it’s important to keep check specific benefits.

On the Government website, it states individuals on Universal Credit, PIP, Carer’s Allowance, Child Benefit, tax credits and more Government support who would normally be paid on any of the bank holiday dates mentioned above will be paid on Thursday, April 6.

If they are paid on a different date to these, they will experience no changes.

Anyone who claims benefits will see the payments drop straight into their bank accounts.

Everyone receiving benefits could, in principle, be affected by bank holiday changes.

This includes those claiming the following:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Carer’s Allowance
  • Child Benefit
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Pension Credit
  • Personal Independence Payment
  • State Pension
  • Universal Credit
  • Tax credits (such as Working Tax Credit).

When will DWP benefit payments be paid?

Easter Bank Holiday: Payments will be made on April 6, if the payment is expected on April 7 or 10.

Early May Bank Holiday: Payments will be made on April 28, instead of May 1.

Bank Holiday for the coronation of King Charles III: Payments expected on May 8 (King Charles III’s coronation) will be paid out on May 5.

Spring Bank Holiday: Payments will be made on May 26, instead of May 29.

Summer Bank Holiday: Payments will be made on August 25, instead of August 28.

As the cost of living crisis continues, many families will be looking for ways to keep up with rising prices.

Britons are urged to check if they qualify for any financial support from the Government. Britons can use an independent, free and anonymous benefits calculator to check what they could be entitled to.

There is also the energy bill support scheme which is due to come to an end at the end of March. The package, worth a total of £400, helped to reduce bill costs without needing to be repaid.

Throughout October and November, people received an instalment of £66 respectively while the following three months featured an instalment of £67. Those who pay by direct debit will have their bills reduced automatically while those on pre-payment meters will have to get a discount voucher either by text, email or post, which can then be used at your regular top-up shop.
