Need for Speed fans are excited for Unbound as the latest entry in the series was revealed on October 6, 2022. The game is developed by Criterion Games and published by Electronic Arts for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is set in a fictional city called Lakeshore City which is inspired by Chicago.

EA revealed more details about Lakeshore City in a new Under the Hood community blog. The developers describe Lakeshore as a canvas, and the players as the artists. Weekly Qualifiers, Takeovers, and Meetups will take place in the world of NFS Unbound, as your goal is to start from the bottom and race to the top.

Earning cash is also the only way you can take advantage of the new driving effects in the game. EA has gone all in on the customisation aspect, and customising your ride would require you to be good at the wheel because you need to have money to design and upgrade.

The single-player campaign mode will have a narrative set in the city of Lakeshore. The devs explain, “When a robbery at a family auto shop tears two friends apart, a rookie racer sets out on a journey to win the ultimate street race and reclaim the priceless car that was stolen from them.” The online mode can put you in a race with up to 15 players in parties of up to four friends.

As for Lakeshore, Seba Ski Resort will provide mountain views and Griffith Parklands will be preferred by people who like plains. Lake Virgil up to the port of Duncan Bay is described as a picturesque spot. The developers say that the map of Lakeshore feels like it was designed by street racers for street racers.

Speed Traps, Long Jumps, Stunt Drops, and Ramps will also be on the map for some more arcade goodness. The map will also feature Gas Stations where you can get things running smoothly. Safe Houses is where you can tune up your car, and Meetups is the underground racing scene where players can meet up with other street racers and race for cash and can even have side bets.

The cops will be on your tail of course for all the illegal street racing, which is a staple in Need for Speed games. Winning more races increases the Heat level, and players can choose to either flee or battle them, or hide in Lakeshore’s underground to lose the police.
