Economic crisis: Readers most concerned about cost of living – YOU VOTED | Personal Finance | Finance

The cost of living is the biggest concern to Express.co.uk readers amid the latest economic crisis, a new poll has found. Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng set out the Government’s mini-budget last month, revealing a £45billion package of tax cuts. However, such measures have resulted in instability in the UK economy and forced the Bank of England to take emergency action as the value of the pound dropped to record lows against the US dollar.

In a poll that ran from 2pm on Thursday, September 29, to 1pm on Monday, October 3, Express.co.uk asked readers: “What most concerns you about the economic crisis?”

Readers could select up to three options from the given list, and 2,813 responses were received.

The most concerning element was “cost of living” with some 41 percent (1,140 people) selecting this. “Pensions” were the second most concerning with 32 percent (889 people) of votes cast.

In addition, 14 percent (392 people) said they were concerned about “savings”, while nine percent (242 people) answered “mortgage”, and four percent (118 people) said their “wages”. A further 32 people responded that they did not know.

Username Bellina said: “The mini-budget is the first stage of a long-term plan to boost the economy and in turn make our lives better. There is no easy fix just need to ride out the storm.”

And username Tolstoi wrote: “If you look at it, medium to long term it will work but in the short term, things will be an up and down.”
