Eddie McGuire slammed by Colin Carter over Jack Steven stabbing comments

Geelong president Colin Carter has warned his Collingwood counterpart Eddie McGuire to mind his own business after McGuire’s comments on the club’s handling of Jack Steven’s stabbing incident.

McGuire urged the Cats to provide clarity over the Steven situation in order to stop speculation around the incident, sparking anger within Geelong.

However, Carter was left less than impressed with McGuire’s comments, and wondered how the Pies president might have reacted had the shoe been on the other foot.

“Do you want a polite answer or the impolite answer from me or both,” Carter told the Herald Sun.

“The polite answer is I’m disappointed Eddie raises this in a public forum and I can only imagine how he would react if I questioned publicly how Collingwood was handling an issue with one of its players.

“My less polite answer is it’s none of his business.

“There is a police investigation underway, the AFL Integrity Unit is involved, our view is we let them do their work and after that we make a comment.”

Carter, who has been the president of the Cats since 2011, said he expects an apology from McGuire for his comments.

“It’s one of the examples where his roles in media and as a club president get hopelessly conflicted,” he said.

“Eddie is decent guy and I’m sure that he will phone and apologise.”

Carter’s comments came after Geelong coach Chris Scott addressed the Steven stabbing incident in a press conference this week.

“I get the feeling that some people want to roll some of the previous problems that Jack has had into this current situation and I would caution against that,” Scott told reporters.

“I think it’s wrong that some people have jumped the gun and said that this is an AFL integrity matter and somehow Jack has a case to answer before he is allowed to play footy again. I just think that is assuming the worst in people.”
