AMBUR: A man unhappy with performance of his e-bike set it on fire. The incident happened in near Ambur in Tamil Nadu. Prithviraj Gopinathan, a physiotherapist by profession, poured petrol on his e-bike and set it ablaze. He was unhappy with the e-bike’s performance. He said that despite the company’s claims that the e-bike will cover 181km on a full charge, it runs for only 50-60km.
Prithviraj claimed that he has been facing issues with the bike since the very first month. He had bought the bike in January this year. The incident occured on the day he went to the Gudiyatham RTO as the company had paid the registration fees there instead of his hometown, Ambur. On his way back, the battery ran out leaving him stranded at noon.
Prithviraj said that he requested the company to let him leave the vehicle at the spot for them to pick up, but they said he needs to wait for them and that he can send a technician only by 5pm.

He said that he asked his assistant to buy two litres of petrol, which he poured on the e-bike and set it on fire. Prithviraj posted the videos on his Twitter account.
Prithviraj claimed that just minutes after he posted the video, he recieved call from the company. “A few minutes after I shared the video, a service engineer called me and requested me not to give any interviews to the media and promised to replace the e-bike. I bluntly told them my relationship with their company was over as soon as I burnt the bike. But he said a team has already left for his clinic in Ambur with a brand new e-bike and promised to deliver the bike tonight,” said Prithiviraj.
