Elvis: Graceland upstairs office photo and sweet recording shared by ex Linda Thompson | Music | Entertainment
When Elvis Presley first moved into Graceland in 1957, he had an open house policy for his inner circle, the Memphis Mafia. However, the upstairs was strictly by invite only, with his private space being cordoned off with a security wall on the first-floor landing complete with one-way mirrors. This can even be seen from the bottom of the main staircase on the tour to this day.
At Lisa Marie’s request, Graceland’s upstairs was preserved just as Elvis left it in 1977, when he died of a heart attack in the bathroom up there at just 42.
His daughter has said over the years how it feels like the safest place in the world in The King’s sanctuary. A sort of private shrine to his memory, items are left in place as though the star just got up and left.
This includes a styrofoam cup on a shelf and a copy of JD Sumner and the Stamps on the record player, the last one he ever played.
The picture includes an emoji hand pointing to the organ that Elvis and Linda sat at with an original recording of the two playing, singing and laughing together.
The King’s ex captioned the touching post: “Throwback Thursday… One of the many times Elvis and I would sing together and he would sing harmony… He learned all my sorority songs! Now that’s love! Lol! Alpha delta pi repost @elvis_and_linda_gram.”
