The energy price cap is expected to top £3,500 while service providers claim to be grappling with supply chain pressures compounded by the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The price cap was initially meant to be reviewed every six months, however, Ofgem has recently reduced this to every three, meaning households are likely to see much more rapidly increasing bills in the months to come.

Amongst rocketing fuel costs, inflation rates, and NI tax increases, it comes as no surprise to see the nation desperately searching for quick fixes to lower household costs.

However, there are a few effective ways for households to prepare and lower costs in view of the energy cap price hikes, and here are three of them.

Thermal blinds

Blinds and shutters aren’t just great for keeping the light out, but they can be used to effectively control the temperature in the home.

Helen O’Connor, product manager at 247 Blinds said: “Eliminating all draughts is a key way to reduce the need for central heating. Getting the right window dressing can help reduce your energy usage and even.”

For the most effective means to trap heat, opt for thermal blinds. These are designed to offer effective temperature control all year round.

Unbeatable Blinds experts said: “Switching your regular blinds or curtains to thermal blinds can keep your house warm and save you up to 40 percent on heating bills once winter arrives.”

Aluminium coated blinds with honeycomb pockets are particularly good at regulating temperature as they trap air inside.

Unbeatable Blinds experts continued: “This creates a thermal barrier between the window and your home, reducing heat loss by up to 40 percent.”

The best thermal blinds are those fitted close to the window within the recess as they prevent draughts, however, according to experts, they can still make a difference if they are hung outside of the window. Especially if there is a generous overlap of fabric to cover the surrounding of the wall.
