England fans split on sacking Gareth Southgate after painful World Cup exit to France | Football | Sport
“I don’t mind Southgate leaving, but I don’t think you can watch that game and say he cocked it up. England went toe-to-toe with probably the best team in the world, and lost in the moments,” pointed out @EuroExpert_.
@Sathnam praised Southgate for his ambassadorial work as England head coach, adding: “Gutting. Again. But Kane. Rashford. Southgate. [Jack] Grealish. Great non-toxic role models at a time when they’re much needed.
ITV pundit Gary Neville argued in favour of Southgate staying. The former England defender said: “I would love Gareth to stay on for two years. I’d love to stay on beyond that whether it’s as a coach or whether it be a role in the FA deciding the future.”
Quizzed on his future by ITV, Southgate coyly said after the devastating defeat: “I think after every tournament we’ve sat and reviewed and reflected and we need a bit of time to make sure everyone makes the right decisions.”
