England player ratings: Jude Bellingham rips Senegal apart as five players get 8s | Football | Sport

England produced a superb performance to claim a comfortable victory over Senegal and set up a mouthwatering World Cup quarter-final clash with France. Gareth Southgate’s men rode their luck in the first half, calling on Jordan Pickford to make a brilliant close-range save before grasping control of the match.

First, Jude Bellingham set up Jordan Henderson after a lovely move and the teenager played an instrumental role in the second, breaking from midfielder to slot in Phil Foden, who teed up Harry Kane for England’s second just before the half-time break.

Things got even better for England after the break with Bukayo Saka extending their lead with a nice, deft finish to put the game to bed. That afforded Southgate the luxury of ringing the changes midway through the second 45 to save the legs of key players ahead of Saturday’s quarter-final with France.

Bellingham, who was replaced by Mason Mount in the 76th minute was England’s standout player on the day, with five others impressing. Here, Express Sport bring you England’s player ratings from their impressive 3-0 win.

ENGLAND (4-3-3):

PICKFORD 8

Some uncompromising stops when called upon and bravely offered himself as outlet for harried defenders

WALKER 6

Couple of loose touches and over-ambitious passes did little to escape the intensity of Senegal’s press.

STONES 7

Missed a great set piece early in the game but at the back he looked more comfortable with Senegal’s pace.

MAGUIRE 6

After some colossal performances, he looked nervy at the speed of the strikers – with Mbappe still to come.

SHAW 7

Really pushed high to link up with Foden on the left to good effect while always remaining alert to the counter.

HENDERSON 8

61 caps without a goal, now it’s three in 11. Enjoying a productive autumn to his England career.

RICE 7

Needs to have his wits about him to protect the defenders while in possession and looked comfortable doing it.

BELLINGHAM 9

Energy and athleticism to match Senegal on his own and this guy also possesses the skill to make it pay. Masterful.

FODEN 8

His link play with Kane and Bellingham was a delight and his two assists were testament to his end product.

KANE 8

His goal effectively put the game to bed for England and was struck like a man ready to come alive in Qatar.

SAKA 8

A surprise selection but justified it with his fearless dribbling and hard work off the ball to upset Senegal defence.
