England player ratings vs Ukraine: Bukayo Saka steals the show as Southgate given headache | Football | Sport
England continued the perfect start to their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a 2-0 win against Ukraine on a poignant Sunday afternoon. Express Sport provides the player ratings from Wembley Stadium as the Three Lions’ international break finished with a flourish.
Goalkeeper
Jordan Pickford: 6
One of the easiest clean sheets of his England career. Wasn’t tested all evening.
Defence
Kyle Walker: 8
Completely nullified Ukraine’s biggest threat in Mykhaylo Mudryk before the Chelsea winger was hauled off after an hour.
John Stones: 7
Was class epitomised, as he so often is in an England shirt. Pace test against Mudryk was an intriguing prospect but never materialised.
Harry Maguire: 7
Showcased some superb passing range from the back and was dominant in the air, as always.
Ben Chilwell: 7
Gareth Southgate has been left with a selection headache after Ben Chilwell didn’t put a step wrong in Luke Shaw’s absence. England’s starting left-back at Euro 2024 is anyone’s guess.
Midfield
Declan Rice: 6
Silently did his job on a day when England did the vast majority of the attacking.
Jordan Henderson: 6
He will hope he can keep his place over Kalvin Phillips in Southgate’s midfield three ahead of likely his final international tournament.
Jude Bellingham: 7
Continued to look at home on the international stage on his 10th successive England start. Impressive intent when carrying the ball.
Attack
Bukayo Saka: 9
Arsenal are oh so lucky to have him. Assisted Harry Kane’s opener with a delightful inswinging ball to the back post. Moments later, he bent a sumptuous curling strike into the top corner. Nailed on starter.
James Maddison: 8
Did plenty right on his first England start. Five key passes on the day.
Harry Kane: 7
Scored again. Of course, he did. Perhaps should’ve scored more by his standards.
