Esports Viewership across Asia Increases In One Year Which Spells Great News for Emerging Markets Like India

0

Over the last few years, we have seen a massive growth in competitive gaming across the globe. eSports events have been popping up everywhere and building huge fanbases, attracting gamers from the player bases of DoTA2, COD: Modern Warfare, Fortnite, CS:GO, etc. eSports events have become so ingrained in our daily lives that they’ve been included in last year’s Olympic games. New statistics show that eSports is continuously increasing in viewership and revenue, especially in the Asian scene.

You see those numbers? Those are some good numbers.

The lines between eSports, livestreaming and even influencer marketing have become blurred. The pandemic led to viewing spikes across all livestreaming platforms. People were required to spend time at home during the lockdown and so tuned into livestreams. Audience numbers over the last year were most affected by growth markets in the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.

Even COVID-19 couldn’t dampen the gamer spirit and the increased global interest in competitive gaming. Despite halting or postponing in-person and international events, it is expected that eSports will bring in an even stronger increase in viewership, participation, and revenue for the Asian market in the future.

These increases seem to have forced an eSports push in the Asian market. This year will most likely see eSports featured as official events in the 19th Asian Games, since as many as 45 Asian countries will participate in the games. With the ever-increasing popularity of eSports, it is likely that more events like the Asian Games will include competitive gaming.
