Euan Aitken bombed try vs Rabbitohs leaves Cameron Smith stunned, Dolphins vs Rabbitohs highlights

Dolphins centre Euan Aitken has produced a contender for the biggest bombed try of the season in the first half against the Rabbitohs.

It was an eventful first half for Aitken, with the 27-year-old going from hero to villain as he scored the Dolphins’ opening try of the match before bombing what would have been a simple assist.

Aitken burst through a hole in South Sydney’s defence and found himself with only Latrell Mitchell in front of him.

Instead of passing to a charging Robert Jennings on his left, Aitken opted to throw it right into the traffic, with the Bunnies able to pounce on the loose ball.

Storm great Cameron Smith was left baffled by Aitken’s decision to go right.

”If Euan Aitken had his time again he would pass to his left,” Smith said for Nine.

“He just had to take one more step, maybe half a metre further towards Latrell Mitchell and he had him on toast, he just had to pass left to Jennings.”

Nine’s lead commentator Peter Psaltis also couldn’t believe what he’d seen, calling it “four points gone begging”.

Luckily for Aitken, he did not have to linger on his error for too long, with Jeremy Marshall-King scoring the Dolphins’ second just minutes later as the NRL newcomers took a 14-6 lead into the sheds at half-time.
