F1 news: Ex-Red Bull driver ‘violently attacked by thieves’ as police release statement | F1 | Sport
“The victim got out of his car at Soetendaal around 00:15 after parking, when almost immediately an unknown man approached him with an accelerated pace,” read a statement from the police. “He has a bat in his hand. The victim was hit in the head with the bat.
“A second unknown man joins the man with the bat. Together they violently attack the victim. While the victim defends himself and calls for help, he is robbed of a precious watch and his phone. As soon as the loot is in, the duo runs away from the Soetendaal, turn right in the direction of Vijverhoef.”
Doornbos has been targeted before after having the wheels stolen from his ‘expensive’ Porsche sportscar, the report adds. The racer-turned-TV pundit says he no longer wears expensive items out in public as a result of the latest attack.
It comes just days after Italian police arrested four people over the theft of Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc’s Richard Mille watch, estimated to be worth £1.8m, while Lando Norris had his watch taken at the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy at Wembley in July 2021.
