The Federation of Electronic Sports Associations of India (FEAI) said it will soon release a policy paper as a framework for the development of esports in India.

The paper will seek to facilitate a policy-centered esports outlook that aims to address the talent development ecosystem that covers the spectrum of talent, businesses, job creation, education, and revenue generation for India with regional centres of excellence. FEAI is the apex national body for Esports in India.

“We at FEAI have been recommending policy intervention towards the promotion of animation, visual effects, gaming and comics (AVGC) at the national level as well as placing a strong emphasis on development across states through regional chapters. We firmly believe that the AVGC sector offers immense potential to employ youth and the recent moves will further lead to building an Atmairbhar Esports Ecosystem for India,” the FEAI said in a statement.

The government is yet to recognise any federation or association for E-sports in India. Esports Federation of India, has also been organising events but it has been mired in controversies over several issues.

On Monday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said AVGC sector could provide an avenue to skilled manpower and become the backbone of the media and entertainment industry. FEAI has been propounding a strong policy intervention, anchored by the Government of India, towards formalisation of the Esports and allied industries, including AVGC, to create an enabling ecosystem to support the Indian industry.

As part of defining a “hybrid model” for Esports, including a conventional global outlook with a strong indigenous narrative, for India, the AVGC task force would be a force majeure in setting up a strong foundation for India to actualise its true potential of a $5 trillion economy, spurred by transformative policy orientation.

Boasting of a robust media and entertainment sector that promises to scale up to a $60 billion market size in the next seven years, India accounts for less than 10% global market share for AVGC, leaving a massive potential to actualise given its prominence as the fastest-growing smartphone economy.

The FEAI has also associated with JetSynthesys, the new age digital entertainment and technology company with a strong play in gaming and esports for India’s biggest esports cricket tournament till date – Real Cricket Championship.
