After Argentina’s emphatic victory over Mexico in their second group game, the 2022 Qatar World Cup moves on to the next round of matches featuring Japan, Germany, Spain, Canada and Belgium, among others. France became the first team to seal their qualification to the next round after beating Denmark 2-1 on the back of a man-of-the-match performance from Kylian Mbappe.

Today’s games feature Group E and F, with the midnight clash between Spain and Germany set to attract the most eyeballs. Qualification hangs in the balance for Germany and Croatia, while Spain and Belgium can seal their places in the next round.

Japan v Costa Rica
Today’s first fixture features a Japanese team raring to go, fresh off a 2-1 victory against powerhouse Germany, while their opponents Costa Rica come into the game having lost their first game against Spain 7-0. The Central American nation will hope captain Keylor Navas is in better form between the sticks to deal with an in-form Takuma Asano. Costa Rica will exit the competition if they lose this game.

Belgium v Morocco
Roberto Martinez’s Belgian team face an unpredictable and exciting Moroccan team spearheaded by Dusan Tadic and the mercurial Hakim Ziyech. A win will send the Belgian team through to the round of 16, while Morocco will need at least a tie to keep their hopes of qualifying alive.

Croatia v Canada

With Croatia having drawn their first game against Morocco, anything less than a win against Canada leaves their qualifying hopes in the balance.

Spain v Germany
The blockbuster fixture for this matchday, Luis Enrique’s stellar Spain team – fresh off a 7-0 trashing of Costa Rica – face a deflated Germany team. Hansi Flick’s men lost their opening game against Japan 2-1, becoming the latest in a line of giants taking a beating from the tournament’s underdogs. A win will seal Spain’s qualification to the round of 16, while Germany’s hopes of making it through to the next round will be all but gone if they get anything less than a win.
