Are you ready for 84 minutes of magic on the Moon? On Sunday May 15 and into Monday, 16, 2022 a 100% reddish “Blood Moon” will be visible in North America for 84 minutes during a rare total lunar eclipse.

Where to livestream the ‘Blood Moon’

There are four reliable streaming sources across the globe for this event. Here they are (and if you need to quickly convert from UTC and other time-zones to your own timezone then go here):

Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona—from where dwarf planet Pluto was discovered in 1930—will be livestreaming the total lunar eclipse through a state-of-the-art 12-inch Planewave Telescope from its Giovale Open Deck Observatory.

The action begins at 7:15 p.m. PDT on Sunday, May 15, during which time you’ll see live images of the “Blood Moon” and see eclipse-themed presentations from members of Lowell’s staff.

Some of the most reliable livestreams for both lunar and solar eclipses are provided by Timeanddate.com, which will shows live views of the entire event from 02:0o UTC on May 16, 2022.

As well as watching on YouTube you can also see the same broadcast on Timeanddate.com as well as check out its excellent animations, maps and times for the event.

Telescope retailer High Point Scientific is going live with views of the total lunar eclipse. It all begins at at 10:00 p.m. EDT on May 15, 2022.

A live feed is scheduled for 02:15 UTC on May 16 from the Virtual Telescope Project, which is based in Rome, though will have images and live feeds from around the world.

The Kopernik Observatory & Science Center, a public observatory in Vestal, New York, will begin a livestream at 8:30 p.m. EDT on May 15, 2022. It will include a tour of the lunar surface before the eclipse through its telescopes before the big moment at 9:32 p.m. EDT when the initial penumbral lunar eclipse begins.

As seen from the observatory’s site the Moon will be 12.5º above the eastern horizon, which means the entire event will be visible and broadcast. Kopernik astronomer Jeremy Cartie will be available throughout the stream to chat and answer questions.

When to livestream the ‘Blood Moon’

Although the various livestreams begin at different times the eclipse is a global event. So here’s the celestial schedule for North America on Sunday May 15 and into Monday, 16, 2022.
