The Western Sydney Wanderers have today appointed Mark Rudan as their new head coach for the remainder of the A-League Men’s season.

The appointment comes after Carl Robinson was relieved of coaching duties yesterday, having secured just one win from seven games this season.

After the team’s collapse under Robinson, Wanderers chairman Paul Lederer was pleased with the appointment of Rudan and subsequent opportunity to recondition.

“We need to improve our standing, plain and simple,” he said.

“This appointment was made to bring back a formidable mentality to our team, to stand up for our region and play with absolute determination to succeed.

“Mark understands the domestic football landscape at all levels and breeds a winning culture. Not only is Mark a Western Sydney local but he has coached at all levels and understands what it takes to represent our community.

“We look forward to Mark achieving success with the Wanderers, and with what we believe is an exciting squad.”

Rudan made his coaching debut in the A-League with the Wellington Phoenix in 2018, where he sustained a nine-match winning streak and guided the club to its first finals series in three years.

The following year, Rudan was appointed the inaugural coach of Western United, driving the squad to the finals in their first season.

The 46-year-old has also had stints coaching Australia’s national under 20s team.
