TL;DR

  • Some Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra owners are experiencing S Pen connectivity issues.
  • The S Pen appears to disconnect at random times while in use.
  • Users have come up with some potential fixes for the device.
  • Samsung has rolled out an official fix for the issue.

Update, March 9, 2023 (1:45 PM ET): Samsung has released a fix through a new update to the Air Command app, according to Android Police. To find the update, you’ll need to go to the Galaxy Store, tap on the menu button, and go to updates. If you don’t see an update waiting to be downloaded, it will either be because the update was already installed or it hasn’t reached your market yet.

Original article, March 3, 2023 (11:48 AM ET): The Galaxy S23 Ultra made it to store shelves back in February. While the launch has mostly been successful, nabbing more preorders than the S22 series, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing. For example, some S23 Ultra owners have reported issues with connecting to Wi-Fi. Now some users are claiming there may be a problem with the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s S Pen.

Owners of the S23 Ultra have taken to Reddit to bring up an issue with the phone’s included stylus, according to SamMobile. The accessory appears to be randomly disconnecting for some. While this can be remedied by inserting the S Pen back into its holster, this can quickly become a frustration after a while — not to mention a detriment to productivity.

Although the situation is concerning, users have come up with a couple of solutions to get around the problem. One fix may be resetting the stylus. To reset the S Pen, you will have to go to Settings and tap on Advanced features. From there, you’ll need to tap on S Pen, more options (the three vertical dots), and Reset S Pen.

The other solution is to turn on “Keep S Pen connected.” The Galaxy S23 Ultra S Pen disconnects automatically if it isn’t used for a certain amount of time in order to save battery power. As a result, the stay connected option is disabled by default. To activate this setting, you just have to go to Settings, find Advanced features, tap on S Pen, then hit More S Pen Settings.

If enough people are experiencing this issue and these options don’t work, Samsung may have to issue an update. But it’s possible you may just have to get a new S Pen if the problem persists.
