Game of Thrones’ Jon Snow Spin-Off Will See the Character Deal With Past Traumas

Game of Thrones star Kit Harington has hinted that the planned Jon Snow spin-off might find his character in a difficult place as he struggles to move on from past traumas.

During an appearance at the first official Game of Thrones convention on Sunday, Harington seemingly shared a glimpse into Jon Snow’s future as he reflected on where the Game of Thrones series finale left his character and how he may be feeling in the aftermath of those events.

“I think if you asked him, he would’ve felt he got off lightly,” the actor said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “At the end of the show when we find him in that cell, he’s preparing to be beheaded and he wants to be. He’s done. The fact he goes to the Wall is the greatest gift and also the greatest curse.”

He continued, “He’s gotta go back up to the place with all this history and live out his life thinking about how he killed Dany, and live out his life thinking about Ygritte dying in his arms, and live out his life thinking about how he hung Olly, and live out his life thinking about all of this trauma, and that, that’s interesting.”

Jon Snow’s ending turned out to be one of the more divisive elements of the Game of Thrones finale, but it would be wrong to claim his character arc didn’t have a heroic finish. However, the final shot of the series was somewhat ambiguous as it showed Jon journeying North of the Wall with the Wildlings, making his next steps a little less certain.

“I think where we leave him at the end of the show, there’s always this feeling of like… I think we wanted some kind of little smile that things are OK,” Harington added. “He’s not OK.”

Reports of a Jon Snow spin-off surfaced earlier this year, with Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin later revealing that Harington pitched the show himself. The actor has remained tight-lipped on the project, but his recent insights into the character might be an early indicator as to where we will find Jon Snow in the planned sequel series.
