Open-world JRPG Genshin Impact always introduces the content of its upcoming updates in a special livestream: on Bilibili for its Chinese fandom, and on Twitch and YouTube for its international communities. If you’ve been playing Genshin Impact for months now, surely you’ve noticed the announcements for livestreams follow a specific schedule. The game’s livestreams are always announced two days in advance, and tend to happen on Fridays, around eleven days before the next update goes live.

Genshin Impact Developer miHoYo Delays Its Usual Livestream Plans

As of April 28, miHoYo has yet to announce the Genshin Impact Version 2.7 livestream, making it clear the stream was delayed from its usual schedule. Usually, the stream should have been announced by April 27. Keep in mind this doesn’t necessarily mean that Version 2.7 itself will be delayed though. Update – miHoYo has officially announced via a Facebook post comment, pointed out by SYP and members of the Hu Tao’s Corner Discord, that the 2.7 stream has been delayed.

miHoYo and its developers are originally based in Shanghai, where a strict Covid lockdown has been in place since March, and the situation has yet to improve as of now. The situation had Genshin Impact fans worried for the developers’ safety. Speaking to our peers at ComicBook, miHoYo also explained it’s doing its best to keep working on future updates amidst the lockdown.

What’s Happening to 2.7 Now? Predictions

First off, it’s important to note Version 2.7 is pretty much finished and should only need minor adjustments. The Closed Beta Test for 2.7 has already ended too. However, seeing no livestream got announced for now, it’s still possible 2.7 or future updates beyond 2.7 could get delayed, and that miHoYo is about to take a final decision on the matter.

In other words, Sumeru, the next region, could get its launch delayed too. If so, then miHoYo probably needs time to redo the 2.7 livestream to change or remove the teasing for the region. In any case, I hope miHoYo takes all the delays it could possibly need and that the situation in Shanghai will improve soon.

Genshin Impact 2.7, coming to PlayStation, PC, and Mobile, will add Yelan and Kuki Shinobu as playable characters, alongside new story quests and events.
