Get rid of inferiority complex for true swaraj : Amit Shah

Home minister Amit Shah on Friday said it was important for Indians to get rid of the inferiority complex that successive rulers instilled in them to feel the essence of real independence. He said the Indian value systems have been progressive from ancient times and ‘no NGO needs to impart lessons on culture and democracy to the country’.

He was speaking after the launch of a mega serial ‘Swaraj – Bharat Ke Swatantrata Sangram Ki Samagra Gatha’, produced by Doordarshan to mark the 75th anniversary of Independence. The 75-episode mega show chronicles lesser-known tales about Indian history and would be telecast from August 14 on Doordarshan in Hindi and regional languages.

“it’s not easy diving into history and bringing out facts. I would like to congratulate the makers of the show for being this bold,” he said. Shah said foreign powers could keep India under their rule as they succeeded in creating an inferiority complex amongst Indians. “Actual swaraj would mean freeing ourselves from slavery of all kinds..having our own culture, values and languages in place. No nation can progress without having a sense of pride for its own history.”

I&B minister Anurag Thakur said the ministry to honour Azadi ka Amrut mahotsav was promoting the stories of hundreds of revolutionaries who died for the country.
