A second division match in Turkey has descended into chaos, with a spectator running onto the field and attacking a goalkeeper with a corner flag.

Play was suspended in the match between Goztepe and Altay when the spectator hit the Altay goalkeeper twice in the head, before being wrestled to the ground.

The match had already been halted midway through the first half to allow an ambulance to make its way onto the pitch, with a number of fans receiving treatment after trouble in the stands. Reports suggest three people, including two children, were injured by flares.

Goalkeeper Ozan Evrim Ozenc was waiting for the match to resume when a spectator grabbed the corner flag and approached him from behind, striking him twice in the head.

BNN Breaking founder Gurbaksh Singh Chahal, who tweeted vision of the incident, reported Ozenc “suffered a haemorrhage and was hospitalised but is conscious.”

The force of the second blow to the back of Ozenc’s head caused the corner post to snap in half.

Referee Emre Kargin took players from both teams from the field before the match was abandoned.

Chahal also tweeted vision, which he says shows a fan being stabbed outside the ground.

Yavuz Selim Kosger, the governor of Izmir, said 13 people were being investigated.

“This incident will not be left behind,” he said in a statement.

“The matter will be investigated in detail.

“They will be punished with the heaviest punishment they should receive.”
