Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been delayed from its planned release date of September 1st, developer Daedelic Entertainment announced via Twitter. According to the message, the studio will be taking extra time to deliver the best possible experience at its launch, and ultimately pushing the release back “by a few months”.

According to the developers, the team “are dedicated to meeting the community’s expectations and uncovering the untold story of Gollum in a way that honors the vision of J. R. R. Tolkien”. They go on to say that “in order to deliver the best possible experience, we have decided to push the release of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum by a few months. We will update you with an exact timing in the near future.”

The upcoming stealth-based RPG was planned to release for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam on September 1st, followed by Switch later in the year. Daedelic Entertainment has not announced the new release date for the game yet. However, players can assume it will launch around November/December time. It’s also still unknown whether or not this delay will affect the Nintendo Switch version of the game.

When the first teaser trailer was released for Lord of the Rings: Gollum back in 2021, fans complained about the game’s lack of quality around the graphics. The developers were then forced to make the tough decision to delay the game after facing the same backlash when a recent gameplay trailer was released just two weeks ago. An additional couple of months will be used to polish the game in order to live up to fan expectations.

Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a story-driven, action RPG in which players embark on a new journey from the Dark Tower to Mirkwood to get back the One Ring. The game will emphasize stealth and cunning elements, allowing players to kill their enemies silently to pass through crowded places without being noticed. Players will have to act wisely, as every decision they make throughout their immersive story will have an impact on Gollum’s personality.

Developed by Daedelic Entertainment, the hotly-anticipated adventure game will support up to twelve languages, including French, Spanish, Polish, and Korean. Additionally, players will be able to experience the game with their controller. The official PC system specifications have yet to be revealed at the time of writing, but fans are now able to add the game to their wishlist via the game’s official Steam page.
