Google has previously announced in 2017 that, they will split the original Hangout app into Meet and Chat apps. And now finally, after two years of their official announcement, Google is heading towards shutting down the original Hangout app. Google will start this transition slowly and gradually to push their users from the classic Hangout to Meet and Chat apps.

This transition will start from G Suite users as Google Hangout will officially retire in October for G Suite users. According to a blog post of G Suite, the classic Hangout app will be officially replaced by the next-generation Hangout Meets and Hangout Chats app. This process will start from April 16, from G Suite users will be able to use Hangout Chats to chat online. Meanwhile, users can disable the classic Hangout if they are using these advanced tools before the ending of Hangout in October.

This blog post advice users to switch to Hangout Meet and Chats between April and September as from October this service will be discontinued. However, Hangout will be giving its service for normal users until 2020. So, if you are using Hangout, no need to worry as Hangout will still be available for you even after the ending of classic Hangout for G Suite users.

However, the new Hangout Meets and Chats will have some modern features including integration with Gmail, chatting with users external to your organization, improved quality of video calling, and making calls with Google Voice. So, all of the above using the new Hangout Meets and Hangout Chats is a wiser choice as it has some great features to use.
