Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 boss James Gunn teases major character death | Films | Entertainment

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is rumoured to wrap up a number of stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Peter Quill’s future is totally uncertain, and Drax star Dave Bautista has already claimed he won’t be returning if director James Gunn isn’t involved. But another major character could instead be at risk of death in the final movie of the Guardians series: Rocket.

Gunn simply replied with an emoji of a pair of eyes. Now, this could of course be taken a few ways. It could mean the fan was right and the director simply didn’t want to confirm it. Or he was totally wrong and he didn’t want to spoil the surprise.

Things got worse for Rocket fanatics when another person commented on Gunn’s post: “About to p**s me off when rocket dies (if he does) they don’t need to die [laughing emoji] send em off world for a bit. Simple.” (sic)

Gunn cryptically replied: “No one said he was going to die but that’s not how stories work.” (sic) (Via The Direct)

While he won’t admit that Rocket might be a major fatality in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, he may have played his hand a little early in a recent interview.

Gunn recently explained that Rocket was the primary focus of his upcoming third (and final) Guardians movie.

He said: “The most important thing for me was Rocket’s story, and then, following that, everybody else.”

“Rocket is the secret protagonist of the Guardians of the Galaxy,” he added. “And has always been the centre of it for me, and this is really fulfilling that.”

In fact, the filmmaker added that Rocket’s story was a key reason he returned to Marvel Studios.

He added that the reason he returned to Marvel Studios and agreed to do a third Guardians film, was to complete Rocket’s story.

“I really felt like Rocket’s story needed to be told,” he confessed. “And it was left hanging after Vol 2.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 hits cinemas on May 5.

Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 are available to stream on Disney Plus now.
