Hair stylist shares popular hair wash method that will ruin your hair – ‘don’t you dare’

You have probably been washing your hair for the best part of 20, 30, 40 years or more, but your haircare routine might actually be doing your hair more harm than good. Brad Mondo, American hair stylist and social media personality, shared a few tips for optimum hair washing – and thicker, healthier hair.

Brad shared that there is one thing women should absolutely never do when it comes to hair washing day.

He told his 7.6 million YouTube subscribers: “Here’s a big one for me, here’s a pet peeve of mine.

“When you get out of the shower, do not take that towel and scrub your hair with it – don’t you dare do that to me.”

He implored viewers not to use their towel to wring out the ends of their hair and rub it dry.

Brad continued: “Oh my god, there’s nothing I want to see less that that.”

Instead, women should lay their towel over their hands, bend their head over and scrunch the hair gently with it.

Next, Brad revealed that the hair drying method many of us use for quickness and ease is actually very damaging.

Although it might be “tempting”, refrain from putting your wet hair up in a “hair turban”.

DON’T MISS

He warned that using a hair turban may lead to something called tension alopecia, which is when excessive tension on the hair shafts causes hair loss.

Pulling it back super tight into a hair towel or turban is not a good idea for those who want thick, voluminous, full hair.

He explained that this method will pull on the “fragile” pieces of hair that have just been washed.

According to the expert, hair that has just been washed and warmed up is more vulnerable and fragile to breakage.

These are the rules for post-hair washing, but what about washing the hair itself?

Some people are partial to a scalding hot shower, while others prefer a refreshing arctic rinse.

However, according to the expert, these temperatures can wreak havoc on healthy hair.

As opposed to cold, hot or extremely hot water, Brad explained that lukewarm water is your best bet for healthy hair.

Brad stated: “I’m going to come out and say it, I think washing your hair with cold water is such b*******.

“I wouldn’t do it unless you just wanted to make yourself miserable at morning or at night, whenever you’re washing your hair.”

He explained that warm water opens up the hair cuticle (the hair’s protective layer) a bit wider than cold water will and release the dirt more easily.

As for how to wash your hair under this lukewarm water, Brad encouraged viewers to be gentle rather than rough with their hands.

This will avoid tangling, matting, and roughing up the cuticle – which may actually cause you to lose hair due to breakage.
