Dave Myers confessed in a new interview that the chemotherapy had sapped his calories, and that it had been difficult to regain weight afterwards as his appetite was “dreadful”.

He and Hairy Bikers partner Si King once loved trying out the various taste sensations together while on the road, so his sudden aversion to food has been a challenge.

Revealing that he is still undergoing treatment for cancer, the 65-year-old shared: “When you first start chemotherapy… it’s quite hard. I’m still having it. It really was brutal.”

“I lost so much weight and then it’s a battle to get your calories in,” he continued on Tommy Banks’ Seasoned podcast.

“At first I thought, ‘Right, this is great, I can eat all those pies I haven’t been eating for years’, except [my] appetite was dreadful!”

The shaken star added that for himself as a “gluton”, losing interest in food felt “awful”.

“A can of soup was about as far as I could go,” he shuddered.

However, he added that he has now reached a healthier weight again, and it will simply be a matter of “maintaining” it.

On the road to recovery, the star also confessed to Kaye Adams on her How To Be 60 podcast that he’d developed cravings for unusual combinations like cottage pie with Vimto – and that his choices confuse his wife.

Meanwhile, he is undergoing intensive physiotherapy to regain walking skills, after the chemo also targeted his balance.

Meanwhile, he is undergoing intensive physiotherapy to regain walking skills, after the chemo also targeted his balance.

“It’s hard [even] to stand, so I’ve had to really learn to walk again!” he told Kaye.

That said, Dave is optimistic about the future, and has even purchased a new motorbike in the hope he can soon be out on the road again.

Elaborating on his physio sessions, he revealed: “They sit me on a pilates ball and rock me from side to side pretending [I’m] on a motorbike.”

Dave had a rubber band secured under each foot as he simulates the action of changing gears.
