Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot’s The Flash Cameos Reportedly Cut to Make Way for Gunn’s DC

While it’s already been made official that Henry Cavill will no longer return as Superman in the DC of the future under James Gunn and Peter Safran, it has now been reported that cameos of Cavill and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman have been cut from The Flash to make way for the studio’s new direction.

As reported by THR, these moves indicate that Gunn and Safran are not going to simply play with the pieces already in play in the DCEU, but that they will be making a major shift as they steer this massive ship into uncharted waters.

This shift has already made waves in existing projects like The Flash thanks to Cavill’s departure and the decision to not move forward with Patty Jenkins’ most recent vision of Wonder Woman 3.

“The sunsetting of Cavill’s time as Superman was the clearest indication yet that Gunn and Safran are mounting a substantial overhaul of DC, a reboot that will cut significant, if not most, ties to the previous regimes that handled DC movies for Warner Bros,” THR wrote. “Cavill also shot a cameo in The Flash, one of four DC movies set to release in 2023, but sources say that cameo, along with that of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, is now being cut given that the studio chose to not go forward with director Patty Jenkins’ version of Wonder Woman 3.”

Although Cavill made a cameo appearance in Black Adam and announced he would once again wear the iconic cape, sources say he “did not have a deal in place to return as Superman, only a verbal agreement that the studio would develop future projects.”

Cavill’s time in the DC universe may not be over for good, however, as Gunn and Safran met with the actor and discussed a potential new role “down the road.”

As for Superman, the hero remains a top priority for Gunn and Safran, but this new take will focus on his younger days as a reporter. Gunn will write the script, but will not sit in the director’s chair.

For more, check out the news that The Flash’s release date has been moved up and that Cavill is already back on his feet and is set to star and executive produce Amazon Studios’ Warhammer 40,000 series.
