Here Is When the Rebranded Avatar of HBO Max Video Streaming Platform Might Come to India

0

HBO Max has been rebranded as Max, as Warner Bros. Discovery is set to bring a combination of content from Discovery+ and HBO Max. You can read more about the upcoming streaming service here.

Why is Max not available in India?

Max is a successor to HBO Max, which integrates elements from HBO as well as Discovery+. The service is set to release on May 23, 2023, however, there is no word on an India launch of the service.

HBO’s content used to be available on Disney+ Hotstar, until it was removed from the service. This means that there is currently no place to watch shows such as Succession, The Last of Us, the upcoming Harry Potter series, House of the Dragon, Game of Thrones, West World and more in India.

With the revamp and relaunch of HBO Max as Max, Warner Bros. Discover may have to strike a deal with an Indian streaming platform or enter the market on its own like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video. However, we have not heard of any deal with other streaming platforms yet.

When will Max launch in India?

Warner Bros. Discovery has not announced a specific launch date for Max in India. However, it has indicated that it plans to bring the service globally to other markets.

“We have no details to share on the launch of Max in India. We plan to roll out the product in key Asia Pacific territories later in 2024. Specific markets and timelines will be announced closer to launch,” a spokesperson from WarnerMedia told IGN India. This means that fans in India won’t have a way to watch HBO content online in official capacity for some time.

What content will be available on Max?

Max is an amalgamation of HBO content, as well as content from Discovery+. This means that the streaming service will have HBO Max shows and films such as Succession, House of the Dragon, The Menu, and The Last of Us. But it will also have content from the Discovery+ catalogue, such as Property Brothers, Fixer Upper, and Dr. Pimple Popper.
