Here’s why Google wants these users to update their PC to Windows 10 or Windows 11

Almost two months back, Google announced that it will end Chrome web browser support for Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems by early 2023. As 2022 is approaching its end, Google has started dropping a new popup notification to Chrome users running Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems.
The new notification popup on Chrome reads, “To get future Google Chrome updates, you’ll need Windows 10 or later.” Now, this notification shouldn’t come as a surprise to users as the company has already confirmed the end of support for older Windows versions.
How users will get affected
Once Google will drop Chrome support from Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems, users won’t receive any new Chrome updates that’ll make the web browser vulnerable to security threats, data braces, malware attacks and more.
Why you should update right away
To avoid any such issues, it is required that you should update your Windows PC or laptop or other devices to either Windows 10 or Windows 11 if it is compatible. Else, you’ll be stuck to the older version of Chrome.
Chrome support will end in January 2023, older versions will work
As per the official blog post, Google will drop the support in January next year. Chrome 109 will be the last version of Chrome to support Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1. This means, starting the Chrome 110 update, users will require Windows 10 or newer to download and use Google’s web browser.
Google has also confirmed that older versions of Chrome (version 109 or older) will continue to work. However, it won’t receive any future updates. The blog also reads, “ we encourage you to move to a supported Windows version to ensure you continue to receive the latest security updates and Chrome features”.
How to update your Windows PC to Windows 10 or newer
If you are looking to download Windows 11, you’ll have to ensure that your PC meets the operating system’s minimum requirements. To do that download the Windows PC Health tool.
If the PC is supported, head to Windows update under Settings or Control Panel (in the case of Windows 7) and look for the update. If the update does not appear there. Download the Windows Media Creation tool and follow the instructions to download and update Windows 11 on your device.
To update to Windows 10, simply check for Windows update and you’ll find the update if the system meets the requirements. Alternatively, you can create a bootable pendrive and install Windows 10 from scratch. Just make sure to take a complete backup before your proceed.
