House of the Dragon’s co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik is stepping down from his role with HBO’s latest hit series House of the Dragon, according to THR. Alan Taylor will remain on the show as the only showrunner. Sapochnik will, however, continue to be an executive producer on the series.

Sapochnik will also be involved in developing new projects with a first-look deal with HBO. As for House of the Dragon, Sapochnik will exit the role, leaving Taylor as the producer and director.

HBO said the following about his work in a statement, praising him for his working for three years on House of the Dragon:

“Miguel Sapochnik has done amazing work on the first season of House of the Dragon, establishing its signature look and feel,” HBO said. “This series simply could not have come together the way it did without him. While we would have loved to have Miguel continue in the same role, we are thrilled to have his ongoing collaboration in this new creative capacity. Looking forward, we’ve had a decades-long relationship with Alan Taylor, and we are delighted to have him join Ryan and rest of the talented team.”

Taylor worked on Game of Thrones as well, helping create the first season’s look and feel. He worked on episodes such as “The Night Lands” and “Beyond the Wall.” He worked on Mad Men, Rome and won an Emmy for working on HBO’s The Sopranos.
