How Realme is trying to improve the video-calling experience with its Pad X tablet

Realme introduced the Pad X tablet as a Wi-Fi-only device in May for the domestic market. Now, the Chinese phone maker is set to launch the tablet in India on July 26. The company has confirmed that the Realme Pad X will not be the only product to launch in the upcoming event as it will be accompanied by a new smartwatch, a couple of headphones and a monitor. Realme is promoting its upcoming tablet as the “only 5G tablet in the premium mid-range segment”. According to a report by GSMAreana, the company’s R&D team has developed a new feature which is expected to improve the video-calling experience. The report also mentions that this feature will rely on the upcoming tablet’s 105-degree front-facing camera.
Realme Pad X Limelight feature: Availability and other details
The new Limelight feature is expected to improve the video calling experience by automatically tracking users to ensure that they are in the centre of the frame. The report suggests that this feature will allow users to freely move around the device while they are on a video call, rather than being anchored to their chair.
The report claims that the upcoming feature will support tracking for up to five people and can come in handy in group situations. The algorithm developed by Realme is likely to zoom out to accommodate new participants joining the group and will zoom back in when someone leaves, the report suggests.
As per the report, Realme’s Limelight feature is quite similar to Apple’s Center Stage feature which the company included not only in iPads but also in the 27-inch Studio display. Initially, the Limelight feature will be available in Zoom, Google Meet and Google Duo. Realme is trying to add support for this feature on other video calling apps.
Realme Pad X expected price and specifications
Just like its Chinese counterpart, the Realme Pad X is expected to arrive in India with two RAM and storage variants — 4GB RAM+64GB storage and 6GB RAM with 128GB storage. In China, the base model costs CNY 1,299 (roughly around Rs 15,400) and the top model comes with a price tag of CNY 1,599 (roughly around Rs 19,000). The company has not offered any information about the pricing of the Indian variant of the Realme Pad X, however, the upcoming tablet is expected to be priced under Rs 20,000.
The Realme Pad X is expected to sport an 11-inch 2K LCD screen that will support a 60Hz refresh rate. The tablet is likely to come powered by the Snapdragon 695 processor backed with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. Moreover, the tablet is also expected to offer up to 5GB of Virtual RAM expansion.
The upcoming tablet might house a 13MP rear camera and 8MP front shooter for selfies and video calls. The front camera will offer a 105-degree field-of-view and will support the Limelight feature. The Realme Pad X is likely to pack an 8500mAh battery unit that will support 33W fast charging and the device will run on Realme UI for Pad.
