How to look younger: Make-up expert amazes with her ‘flawless’ eyeshadow tutorial

A makeup artist has been demystifying beauty for women over a certain age, and now she has debunked the myth older women shouldn’t wear shimmery eye shadow.

Women over 40 are often advised to avoid shimmery eyeshadow, but a beauty expert has debunked this outdated rule. Kalondia Casey is a certified make-up artist who uses her expertise to help mature women “feel beautiful each and every day.”

Kalondia shared her super easy tutorial on how to apply eyeshadow for mature eyes, and it takes just 15 seconds for each eye.

Kalondia, who posts her expert advice on her TikTok account @kalondiacasey, said: “As a mature woman, I get asked all the time ‘what is the easiest way I can make my eyes pop and look great?’ Let me show you how.”

The make-up expert demonstrated the quick and easy hack. The first step is putting eye primer over the lids, which helps to smooth out creases in the skin.

Next, Kalondia used the end of her eyeshadow brush, dipped with eyeshadow, to draw a dot above her eyelid. She said: “I have slightly hooded eyes…so what I am going to do is look straight on and draw a little dot right there…that’s where I know to put my transition colour.”

She explained a transition eyeshadow is a nude shade that should be similar in colour to your skin tone.

Kalondia put more of her transition eyeshadow on her eyelid, avoiding the crease of the eye. She explained: “If I was to put it in my crease, you would not see it, I have to go above and have to kind of sweep out to the side.”

For her next step, Kalondia placed a darker shade on the corner of her eyelid and used her eyeshadow brush to quickly yet gently dab on the eyeshadow. She said: “Next, let’s go in with a deeper brown, right here on this outside corner. You want to load that corner.”

It’s the next step that is most essential, Kalondia said, promising: “this is the part that really pops your mature eyes.”

She took her make-up setting spray and used it to wet both her ring fingers while rubbing them together. She then used her ring finger as a make-up brush for a shimmery eye shadow.

The make-up expert said: “I am taking a shimmer, and I am placing it right there on the moveable eyelid. Ladies, it will pop it right open.”

She showed her right eye, in which the make-up looked brighter, and compared it to the eyeshadow on the left side of her face, in which she had used a matte eyeshadow. Kalondia said: “Look at the difference between this one and this one!”

Kalondia’s final stage was to take her eyeshadow brush and then blend her eyeshadow. She said: “So now, let’s blend. Blending is your friend.” She said her make-up wasn’t “anything over the top” and was going for a more “subtle” look.

“Just like that,” she said, “my make-up is finished. I think it looks great. An easy eye look, three steps, 15 seconds for each eye. It’s not a big deal.”

In the comment section, a lot of women thanked Kalondia for dispelling the myth that mature women should not wear shimmer.

One popular comment said: ”I’ve been told elderly women should not wear shimmering eyeshadows you make it look so beautiful. Thank you for showing us this.” Kalondia replied to the user and said: “Well, you are welcome! We can wear what we want!”

Another person described the eyeshadow look as a “gorgeous flawless finish” while another person said it looked “absolutely beautiful.” Somebody else wrote: “Your tips are always so helpful! Thank you.”
