Six banks – HSBC, NatWest, Santander, Starling, the Co-operative Bank and Virgin Money are exposing their customers to scams, experts have warned in a damning new report.

The stark warning comes from Which? after security experts 6point6 tested the online and mobile app security of 15 major current account providers.

They looked at how banks use encryption and protection to safeguard their customers from potential scammers trying to steal personal information.

It said HSBC, NatWest, Santander, Starling, the Co-operative Bank and Virgin Money are putting their customers at risk because they are letting people choose passwords that include their first name and/or surname.
