Chinese technology giant Huawei has launched the world’s most powerful artificial intelligence (AI) processor – the Ascend 910 along with an all-scenario AI computing framework called MindSpore. The Ascend 910 is the new member of the company’s series of Ascend-Max chipsets.
The company has announced regarding the specifications of this chipset last year at its Huawei Connect flagship event 2018. Now after a timespan of one year, the company has finally launched the Ascend 910 chipset which is considered to be the world’s most powerful AI processor.
This chipset is made especially for AI model training and in a typical training session based on ResNet-50. The power of this Ascend 910 chipset can be estimated as its combination with MindSpore is about two times faster at training AI models than other mainstream training cards using TensorFlow.
In addition to its high-end performance, the Ascend 910 consumes the maximum power of 310W which is much lower than that of its planned specifications (350W).
Apart from this, the MindSpore AI framework is adaptable to all conditions and across all devices, edge, and Cloud environments that provide on-demand cooperation between them. It uses the “AI Algorithm As Code” design concept that allows developers to develop advanced AI applications with ease and train their models more quickly.
With the launch of this framework and Ascend 910 AI chipset, Huawei also said that it will continue investing in the AI processors to deliver more rich, affordable and adaptable computing power that meets the needs of a wide range of scenarios such as edge computing, on-vehicle computing for autonomous driving and training.
