The face unlock feature of Huawei Mate 20 Pro got easily fooled by two guys in Germany. Yes, you heard that right, it is according to the report of Tech blog Android Pit showing a recent discovery that the Huawei Mate 20 Pro’s 3D face recognition feature can be easily unlocked by a person with some resemblance to the original phone owner.
This feature has been introduced to the phone after Huawei decided to equip their Mate 20 Pro with a 3D Face Unlock technology. The phone can be unlocked just by using an in-display fingerprint sensor or by the 3D face recognition technology.
The two German guys that made the test aren’t twins, siblings, or even related with each other, only one of them is enrolled into the system. Both of them have short hair and beards, but they have different skin colours, different contours, eye colour, and one of the men has glasses.
When they made the test, the second person with a slight resemblance to the original user was able to easily unlock the phone using the Face unlock feature. The Mate 20 Pro face unlock doesn’t seem to be just easily fooled by this, and it promises high-security level, that’s why they made a second round. But when they tested it out again in other Huawei Mate 20 Pro unit, the phone produced the same results.
Both copies of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro has the same software version, with the same build number, 184.108.40.206 (C432E10R1P16). Safely thinking, it could be a software glitch rather than hardware malfunction and should be fixed with an update.
Comments from Huawei is still on its way, but they should quickly settle things up to clear the negative thoughts earned from this test. Stay tuned with TechnoCodex and we will bring you its latest update.
