Hugh Jackman confirmed in a new interview that Deadpool 3 will not unravel the events of 2017’s Logan thanks to Marvel’s flexibility in timelines, hinting at the possibility that time travel will play a key part in the new film.

“It’s all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines,” Jackman told SiriusXM. “Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So, I don’t have to screw with the Logan timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably to the fans too.”

Jackman is gearing up to return as Wolverine alongside Ryan Reynold’s merc with a mouth in Deadpool 3, set to hit theaters in November of 2024. The move to bring back Jackman came as a surprise to most fans due to the events of Logan. That film, directed by James Mangold, saw Jackman’s Wolverine come to a grisly end, impaled on a tree and unable to heal due to adamantium poisoning. The sendoff to the renowned actor was as perfect as can be, but Jackman still isn’t ready to hang up the claws.

Back in September, Reynolds revealed in a social media post that Jackman would in fact be returning as the character, fulfilling a crossover that the two actors have had in mind for some time now (and no, X-Men Origins: Wolverine doesn’t count). Reynolds, too, also clarified that whatever happens in Deadpool 3 will not negate the events of Logan.

“Logan takes place in 2029,” he explained. “Totally separate thing. Logan died in ‘Logan.’ Not touching that.”

Not much is known about Deadpool 3 apart from Jackman’s apperance, but the new film will surely mark a shift in the MCU. It appears that the film will likely see a version of Wolverine that fans haven’t met before; whether that means a Wolverine from another universe or a Wolverine before his 2029 death remains to be seen. Either way, it’s possible some time-traveling hijinks may ensue.

Deadpool 3 is set to begin production in May of 2023.
