Hugh Jackman Never Used Steroids to Get Fit for Wolverine Because of ‘Side-Effects’

X-Men star Hugh Jackman confirms he never used steroids as Wolverine.

During an interview with CNN, the iconic big-screen mutant, who is set to return for Deadpool 3, revealed that he only ever bulked up the old-fashioned way.

“I love my job, and I love Wolverine,” he said. “I got to be careful what I say here, but, I had been told, anecdotally, what the side effects are of that, and I was like, ‘I don’t love it that much.’ So no, I just do it the old-school way.”

Gorging on protein to aid in bulking up, Jackman joked that he’s eaten his fair share of chickens over the years and apologized to vegans and vegetarians everywhere.

“Literally the karma is not good for me,” he quipped. “If the deity has anything related to chickens, I’m in trouble.”

Now, it looks as though he’ll be going through it all again for Deadpool 3.

“I’ve learned you can’t rush it,” he explained. “I’ve learned that it takes time. So, we have six months from when I finish [The Music Man] to when I start filming. And I’m not doing any other work. I’m going to be with my family and train. That’s going to be my job for six months. And I’m really fit right now. There’s one thing about eight shows a week being on Broadway, singing, and dancing, is I’m fit. So, I’m healthy. I have a good place to start.”

Jackman is currently starring in the hit musical The Music Man on Broadway – a very different regime compared to his superhero work.

Still, it looks as though he’s starting from a good place, and he seems confident that it won’t take too much to get his body back in Wolverine shape.

“This story is pre-Logan,” he confirmed about Deadpool 3. “I really thought I was done. I was at peace with it. I got asked every day either in interviews or Ryan Reynolds ringing me ‘Can we do it again?’, I’m like, ‘No, I’m done.’ But my wife said, ‘You know, after this, what is it you really want to do?’ And I was just driving down a day later. And it came to me like that. Because when I keep thinking of me and Ryan, of Deadpool and Wolverine, which are classic comic book rivals, there’s also a dynamic that I’ve never really got to do before as Wolverine and I just thought this is gonna be fun, something I’ve never done before. And I can’t wait.”
