Hyper Light Breaker Delivers Stylish Action and No Man’s Sky Vibes in its Gameplay Debut

0

Last year, indie developer Heart Machine (Hyper Light Drifter, Solar Ash) announced their latest project, Hyper Light Breaker, which they promised would be a co-op open-world roguelite actioner with settlement-building mechanics. That’s al well and good, but no real indication of how the game would actually play was provided alongside the initial announcement.

Well, around a year later, the first real gameplay trailer for Hyper Light Breaker has been released, and the game is looking pretty damn impressive. Heart Machine is promising an endless array of procedurally-generated worlds to battle through, and coincidentally or not, they look a lot like the worlds from the popular procedurally-generated space exploration game No Man’s Sky. Beyond that, Hyper Light Breaker’s combat appears to be solid, enemies have a cool Zelda-esque vibe, and the game seems to have a pretty slick soundtrack. Check out the gameplay trailer for yourself, below.

Well hey, that got my attention! I was somewhat lukewarm on Heart Machine’s previous game Solar Ash, but this has me intrigued. The fact that Gearbox has signed on to publish would seem to indicate they see the potential for this one to be a hit. Need to know more? Here’s a brief Hyper Light Breaker description…

“In this new adventure, you become a Breaker, a mercenary tasked with entering the Overgrowth, a world in disarray within the Hyper Light universe. Either solo or with up to three fellow Breakers, players will explore large procedurally-generated biomes in a vibrant open world, encounter an array of brutal monsters, create new character builds, fight against mysterious bosses known as Crowns.

Though you’ll start your journey trying to help the settlement, it’s clear that there’s something sinister in this long-forgotten land. Only through tenacity and rigorous exploration will you uncover the dark truths of the Crowns, The Abyss King, and this brutal, eerie new landscape.”

Hyper Light Breaker will launch on PC via Steam Early Access later this fall. What do you think? Now that you’ve seen the game in action, are you interested in giving it a spin?
